✦ Synopsis

Tropic actions of extracellular nucleotides and nucleosides have been described in both the central and peripheral nervous systems as well as for numerous other cell types. These effects on cellular differentiation and proliferation are mediated by specific cell surface PI and P2 receptors. In some cases, extracellular purines act synergistically with polypeptide growth factors. The signal-transduction pathways that couple the PI or P2 receptors to changes in cell growth are beginning to be uncovered. The trophic actions of purines have both physiological and pathological implications and may play important roles in development and synaptogenesis as well as in tissue injury and repair.

## Abstract We have previously shown that HeLa cells express P2Y~2~ and P2Y~6~ receptors endogenously and determined the pathways by which the P2Y~2~ controls proliferation and Na^+^/K^+^ATPase activity. Our objective in this study was to investigate the hypothesis that P2Y~6~ also controls prolife

## Abstract Osteoblastic migration and proliferation in response to growth factors are essential for skeletal development, bone remodeling, and fracture repair, as well as pathologic processes, such as metastasis. We studied migration in response to platelet‐derived growth factor (PDGF, 10 ng/ml) i
