✦ Synopsis


The reactions of the stabiliser transformation product 3,3',5,5'-tetra-t-butyl-4,4'-stilbenequinone have been investigated using the techniques of pulse radiolysis and laser flash photolysis coupled with optical absorption spectroscopy. Studies have been carried out in hydrocarbon liquids and in molten polyethylene. The stilbenequinone compound has been found to be a radiation-and photochemically active species, forming a variety of transients including positive and negative ions, radicals, and a triplet state.
