Abstract

Bicyclo[2.2.0]hex‐5‐ene‐2‐endo‐carboxylic acids and their methyl esters give the corresponding γ‐lactones, together with isomerized products, upon treatment with hydrochloric acid in acetic acid. The reaction mechanism is discussed.
