✦ Synopsis

Amorphous alloys of Al and Mn are obtained by sputtering on the targeted alloys of the following chemical compositions Al 89 Mn 11 and Al 86 Mn 14 . Two sets of samples have be prepared; the first is an amorphous phase Al 87X4 Mn 12X6 and the second is a two-phase one with a global composition of Al 91 Mn 9 , containing one amorphous phase and one solid solution Al±Mn. The optical absorption spectra in both cases are dominated by one large structure, between 1 and 4 eV, involving electronic transitions orginated from 3d states of the manganese. The atomic structure with its amorphous characteristic is observed on the diffraction pattern which is obtained from electron diffraction samples.

Measurements have been made on the concentrations of vacancies and interstitial clusters in singlecrystal graphite irradiated with neutrons in a reactor and with carbon ions in an accelerator. The irradiations were carried out over a range of temperatures from 30" to 1100°C and a range of total init
