โฆ Synopsis
The pore structure of the pyrolysis residues of poiy-2.~dimethylphenyleneoxide (PPO) and oxidized PPO were studied by adsorption measurements. The Dubinin method with different gases as adsorbents was used for determination of the micropore volume. In all cases slit-shaped micropores were found, Preoxidation of the precursor polymer causes the formation of 5-6 A pore thickness compared with 4 b, pore entrances, mainly resulting from unoxidized polymer. 0.24 g/cm3 residue was reached as maximum micropore volume in chars heat, treated up to 600ยฐC. By comparison of N,-adsorption and desorption isotherms a small amount of 30 .A tubular pores with micropore ends could be ensured, which amount is independent of the pyrolysis conditions. Chars from oxidized PPO seem to be promising molecular sieves for the separation of aromatic compounds.
