Results of an investigation of the use of high-aspect-ratlo mica flakes in hardened portland cement matrices are reported. Increases in flexural strength by a factor of 2 and in fracture toughness by a factor of 4, depending on matrix porosity, are obtained by the addition of small amounts of mica.

To determine how the surface modification of mica influences flexural strength and fracture toughness of mica-relnforced cement composites, mica was treated with HF acid and three coupling agents: two silanes (CVBS, yMPS) and a titanate (IDT). Significant increases in mechanical properties resulted,
Results of an investigation to determine the dependence of mechanical properties on microstructure of high alumina cement (HAC)-based binders reinforced with natural woUastonite micro-fibres are reported. Two composite systems were studied. One was the HAC -wollastonite system the other the HAC-sili
The effect of additions of powdered limestone and quartz to HAC\* pastes on sulfate resistance and rate of conversion in water has been studied. It is stated that the pastes with limestone addition are more resistant to sulfates and their degree of conversion is lowest in both environments, It is ca
