โœฆ Synopsis

The prolactin response to nemonapride, a new antipsychotic drug, was studied in 27 schizophrenic inpatients (12 males, 15 females). The daily dose of nemonapride was 18 mg/day, and the duration of treatment was 3 weeks. Plasma prolactin concentrations were measured by enzyme immunoassay. Nemonapride treatment signiยฎcantly ( p 0ร01) increased prolactin concentrations at each week in both genders. The Dprolactin (the mean concentration during 3 weeks minus the pretreatment concentration) was signiยฎcantly ( p 0ร01) greater in females (mean + SDY 81ร6 + 57ร8 ngaml) than males (34ร9 + 19ร8 ngaml). The present study thus shows that nemonapride treatment markedly increases prolactin concentrations in schizophrenic patients, with greater responses in females than males, suggesting a strong D2 receptor blockade property of the drug.

## Abstract Hyperprolactinemia is a frequent consequence of treatment with some antipsychotic agents. Although prolactin secretion varies over the course of a day and during psychological circumstances, there is little information in the literature regarding the time dependence of the prolactin res

Researchers have reported a stimulatory effect of carbohydrate-rich intake on platelet-poor plasma (PPP) serotonin (5-HT) levels in healthy human subjects. Dietary manipulation may serve as a safer and less invasive means than pharmacologic challenge to provoke serotonergic responsivity in studies o
