A model for the kinetics of photocatalytic processes on spherical TiO, particles is developed. The quantum yield for the photooxidation of organic molecules by oxygen in aqueous solution is derived for two cases. In one case the yield is limited by surface recombination, in the other case by a rever

β¦ Synopsis
UV irradiation of an aqueous solution of Ti'+ ion generates the Tl 'W ion and hydrogen; the latter spontaneously hydrolyes to TiO, giving ultra-tine colloidal particles which display sizequantization effects. Mechanisms that stabilize photogenerated TiO* in the ultra-fine form are diiussed.
