โœฆ Synopsis

Electrostatic hexapole focusing is used to produce a beam of ND1 molecules in a pure, single 1 JKM) 1 f ) = Ill 11) I-) rotational-vibrational quantum state in the electronic ground state, 2 'A', . Both photodissociation at 193.3 nm and (2 + 1) REMPI are used to detect the state-selected ND3 molecules. Calculated focusing curves are shown to be in good agreement with the experimental curves for initial beam temperatures less than 6 K and spectral simulations confirm the single state nature of the molecular beam by comparisons to the measured population and alignment (A 6" = 0.5 k 0.1) of the focused Ill 11) I-) state.
