โฆ Synopsis
We have observed the stoichiometric sodium chloride cluster anions (NaCI);
(n=2 to 22) in the plume of laser-vaporized sodium chloride. The absolute and relative abundances of these particles are very sensitive to source conditions, indicating that they do not all bind their extra electron in the same manner. While several species may permit the electron to occupy a crystalline lattice site, as though it were a chlorine ion, photodetachment threshold measurements on (NaCl); support the theoretical prediction that this cluster anion has the electron bound in the dipole field of a linear chain molecule (NaClNaCl).

We report here on the detection of (SFs),,.X-(X= SFs, SF+ SFs) ions which form by electron attachment to SF6 clusters in a molecular beam. The formation of some species, e.g. SFs,SFF with resonances at 6 and 10 eV, is unexpected because attachment to the bare SF, molecule does not yield the analogou
