✦ Synopsis

Procedures to enforce equilibration of residuals and determine complementary a posteriori error estimates for linear elasticity have been published elsewhere.

Methods for determining the error in stress and displacement have also been proposed. Here we discuss an extension to the procedure for equilibrating the residuals and apply it to a simple example. Results for the error in stress and displacement are presented.

## Abstract This paper addresses the issue of a p‐adaptive version of the generalized finite element method (GFEM). The technique adopted here is the equilibrated element residual method, but presented under the GFEM approach, i.e., by taking into account the typical nodal enrichment scheme of the

In this contribution, adaptive finite element methods are presented based on the approximation of large-and smallstrain elasticity. Upper bound residual global and local a posteriori error estimators without interpolation constants are derived by solving auxiliary local Neumann problems with equilib
