## Abstract The pioneering studies of Smithells et al. showed the reduction of recurrent neural‐tube defects (NTD) after periconceptional folic acid‐containing multivitamin supplementation. The Hungarian Periconceptional Service was established in 1984, and this primary health care system offered a
