✦ Synopsis

The effect of pressure upon the magnetism is several actinide compounds is explored. The magnetism of actinide compounds is characterized by a large orbital contribution to the magnetization. The orbital moment is often larger than the spin moment and it may be more sensitive to pressure. It is possible that, at high pressure, the spin and orbital contributions to the total moment cancel. The dependence of intra-atomic and inter-atomic exchange interactions upon volume is discussed and calculated for UO,. Finally the magnetic ordering temperature of UO, is estimated.
