✦ Synopsis
Pressure-induced line broadening and line shift of four rovibrational transitions in the n 2 band of NH 3 and of two unassigned transitions at 10 mm were measured, using the wavelength-stabilized Cologne diode laser spectrometer with an improved recording system. Self-effects and foreign gas effects caused by O 2 , N 2 , mixtures thereof, H 2 O, Ar, CO, and He have been investigated. Shift and broadening by the foreign gas H 2 O were found to be much larger than the effects of the other foreign gases. Thus, the effect of H 2 O contamination imposes a serious problem upon determining the pressure effects by other gases. For all lines, a linear dependence of the shift and the broadening on the mixing ratio of the foreign gases O 2 and N 2 has been found.
