✦ Synopsis
Crosslinked poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone), preirradiated in air with ␥ rays, was grafted with ethyl acrylate in dioxane and water. A detailed study of grafting was made under various reaction conditions. The graft copolymer was treated with potassium hydroxamate in ethanol. The resulting polymer contained pendant hydroxamic acid groups (OCOONHOH) and was studied for the formation of complexes with Fe(III), Cu(II), and Ni(II). The effect of pH on the metal ion uptake by the polymer was also studied.
