✦ Synopsis
New phosphorus-containing homo-and copolyesters were prepared from 2,8-dihydroxy-5phenyl-5H-dibenzophosphole 5-oxide, bisphenol A and diacid chlorides, and their solubility, thermal stability, flame resistance and photochemical stability were investigated. Most of the polyesters were obtained at relatively low viscosities. Incorporation of the dibenzophosphole ring into the polymer backbone was found to improve solubility in polar aprotic solvents, flame resistance, and stability to u.v. light. The dibenzophosphole-containing homo-and copolyesters had initial decomposition temperatures comparable to those of phosphorus-flee polyarylates.

The reaction of dichloromaleimides with aromatic amines was applied to the preparation of phosphorus-containing polymers, so-called polymaleimide-amines. The phosphorus-containing polymaleimide-amines were synthesized from N,N'-bisdichloromaleimido-3,3'-diphenylalkylphosphine oxides and aromatic dia
New phenoxaphosphine-containing polyamides were prepared from 2,8-dichloroformyl-10phenylphenoxaphosphine 10-oxide (I!!) and aromatic diamines in DMA by low-temperature solution polycondensation in the presence of triethylamine as acid acceptor. Two series of polyesters containing phenoxaphosphine rings and several halogens were synthesized by low-temperature solution polycondensation in the presence of triethylamine. One series, containing halogens only in the bisphenol moiety, was obtained from 2,8-dichloroformyl-10-phenylphenoxaphosphine
