✦ Synopsis
acids 2-2H+, interconnected by the dicationic 2-2H + units (Figure ).
In conclusion, the following points may be emphasized: 1) compound 1-2H+, which as dicationic building block is capable of acting as H-donor for four H-bonds, is well suited for hydrogen bonding to two dicarboxylate ions; 2) through both electrostatic interactions and directionally controlled H-bonding, positive and negative units may be assembled in the solid state into an a-network with predictable structures; and 3) by varying the ratio of the two components, 8-networks or layered structures may be generated by interconnection of a-networks.
