✦ Synopsis
Abstract
The corresponding diphenylpyridylmethanes and phenyldipyridylmethanes are produced from diphenylpyridylcarbinols and phenyldipyridyl carbinols, respectively, by reduction with hydriodic acid in glacial acetic acid or with phosphorus triiodide and hydriodic acid. Tripyridylcarbinols are not reduced under these conditions.
Diphenyl(β‐pyridyl) acetic acid is obtained from diphenyl(β‐pyridyl) methane by the action of phenyllithium‐phenylsodium and subsequent carboxylation.
