Starting from trimethylsilyl bromide and fluorocarbonylsulphenyl chloride, the compound fluorocarbonylsulphenyl bromide, FC(O)SBr, has been prepared. The IR, Raman, UV, mass, I9F-and "C-NMR spectra have been obtained and interpreted. The vibrational data point to the existence of planar trans and cis conformers (with respect to the halogens), the trms conformer being by far the more abundant at room temperature. For the trans conformer an approximate force field has been calculated for the A' modes. General results agree with reports for other carbonylic FC(0)SX compounds.
