β¦ Synopsis
Preparation and Investigation of BaS0,-KMnO, Crystals BaSO, crystals containing KMnO, prepared by precipitation were investigated morphologically, chemically and by X-ray diffraction. The colour of the preparations is homogeneous and stable. The colour intensity and also the amount of dissolved KMnO, (maximum approx. 30 Molyo) increases with concentration of KMnO, in the reaction solution to a limiting value dependent on the temperature. The lattice constants or the unit cell volume of the BaS0,-KMnO, crystals increase with the proportion of KMnO,. The experimental values agree wcll with the Vegard rulc for preparations up to 18 Molyo KMnO,, but with higher proportions significant departures were observed. They may easily be explained by adsorption phenomena. Because the experimental possibilities for preparation of BaS0,-KMnO, crystals aro narrowly limited, the miscibility gapinfered from chemical resultscannot be determined.
The system BaSO,-KMnO, is regarded as a true mixed crystal system, novertheless to explain all observations an adsorption of KMnO, on BaSO, must also be considered.
