โฆ Synopsis
A 24-year-old woman is initially seen with a poorly defined mass in the left supraclavicular area. The mass lies in the area of the scalene nodes and measures 1 cm x 3 cm. It is rubbery, nontender, and mobile. She has no risk factors for head and neck cancer and denies night sweats or weight loss. She has seen another physician who has twice performed fine-needle aspirations of the mass. The pathology reports are inconclusive. Except for the mass, her head and neck examination is normal.
She is currently in an in-vitro fertilization (IVF) program. Her infertility specialist plans to extract eggs from her in his outpatient clinic. He requests that you perform an excisional biopsy of the mass at the same time she is under sedation.
