✦ Synopsis

Abstract

How commonly does a suicide attempt lead to post‐traumatic stress disorder? The terrifying nature of events before and after many suicide attempts and the increasing rates of suicide attempts in the general population suggest that PTSD as a result of a suicide attempt should not be a rare occurrence. However, a thorough review of the literature revealed no reports. We provide one case report and discuss the theoretical, clinical, and research questions linking traumatic suicide attempts to subsequent PTSD.
