The aim of the present paper is to report on the synthesis, characterization and structure-property relationships of a novel family of highly hydrophilic segmented copoly (esterether-carbonafes). The synthetic process is based on a chain-extension reaction involving low molecular weight poly(1actic-

✦ Synopsis
Al~tract--Poly(ethylene oxide), with number-average molecular weight 2000 g/tool and containing two amino end-groups, served as starting material for segmented polybiurets. After silylation, the poly(ethylene oxide) was polycondensed with chloroformylisocyanate and silylated 1,6-diaminohexane, 4,4'-diaminodiphenylmethane or L-lysine et-ethylester. The copolybiurets isolated after precipitation in non-solvents contained a higher fraction of oligobiuret hard segments than expected from the feed ratio. Most polybiurets were characterized by elemental analyses, inherent viscosities, i.r., tH-NMR and DSC. In two cases, WAXS powder patterns confirmed a low degree of crystallinity. A preliminary study of the hydrolytic degradation in neutral and alkaline water was conducted.
