Polymerization of 4-methoxy-4-phenylbut-l-ene and 4-chloro-4-phenylbut-l-ene were undertaken with A1Eh-VC13 as catalyst, under several sets of conditions. Conversion was related to the formation time of the catalytic species, temperature and molar ratio of the components of the catalyst system. Relative crystallinities and average molecular weights for the polymers are given. NMR analysis indicates that the methoxy group is removed to some extent during the reaction. The influences of pyridine and anisole as donor ligands have been examined.
