✦ Synopsis

The title compound, {C~2~H~10~N~2~
^2+^·B~5~O~8~(OH)^2−^}~n~, has been hydrothermally synthesized. The structure consists of two-dimensional polymeric sheets constructed from [B~5~O~8~(OH)]^2−^ pentaborate anions. Adjacent borate sheets are linked by O—H...O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional framework with channels running along one direction. The ethylenediammonium cations lie on centres of inversion within the channels, interacting with the framework through N—H...O hydrogen bonds.

The low-temperature study of the title compound, [V 4 O 10 (C 12 H 8 N 2 ) 2 ] n , confirms the P2 1 /m space group revision made by Ng & Hu (2004) [J. Solid State Chem. 177, 1780]. Almost all atoms lie on mirror planes.
