✦ Synopsis


Polarography of S-nitro-ace-naphthene has been carried out in the pH range 1.7 to 11.35 using different buffer systems in 40% ethanol medium at a constant temperature 33 rt @2"C and ionic strength, O-27 M. There is a single-step reduction below pH 3 and two steps above pH 3. The number of electrons, 6, involved in the reduction process over the whole pH range was found by using the McBain-Dowson cell. Above pH S-7, the lowering of the total current id was due to the conversion of normal nitro-compound into polarographic inactive a&form. -log k" and an, have been derived using Koutecky's method. Kinetic parameters A mechanism for the electrode reaction is proposed. Die Verringerung des Gesamtstromes id oberhalb pH 5,7 war dem Ubergang der normalen Nitroverbindung in die* A&Form zuzuschrieben. Nach der Methode von Koutecky wurden die kinetischen Parame ter -log k" uud CVI~ hergeleitet. Es wird ein Mechanismus fii die Elektrodemeak tion vorgeschlagen.
