✦ Synopsis

The PMR spectra of cyclopentadiene endo-dimer, its 1 y-acetoxy-derivative and the dimer of spiro-heptadiene have been thoroughly studied. The assignment is proved by the use of spindecoupling experiments and the INDOR-technique. The relative signs of several coupling constants were found and used for the assignment. General trends in the proton chemical shifts and coupling constants are discussed for the derivatives of the cyclopentadiene dimer and for the substituted cyclopentadiene dirners.

* The energy levels diagram for the AMXY system with the transition labelling appears in Ref. 13.

A procedure is also given for finding the relative signs of the coupling constants using the INDORtechnique.

* The first order perturbation theory is not sufficient to analyse these splittings.

A new modification of the cyclopentadienylbismuth dihalide [(C 5 HR 4 )BiCl(l-Cl)] 2 (1) (R = CHMe 2 ) has been characterized by X-ray diffraction. The coordination of the five-membered ring as well as the arrangement of the chloro bridges differ from those of the known modification. On reaction of
