In the present study, the relationships between the deflection and deflection force acting on a bunch of crop stalks in the gathering operations of a combine harvester reel were analysed. Two mechanical crop models based on bending theory with regard to an elastic beam were applied in this analysis.

✦ Synopsis
Laboratory and "eld tests have demonstrated that a component approach to harvesting kenaf and separating the "bre and core has a lot of potential. Machines used for harvesting kenaf required only minor, if any, modi"cation. The straw-walker from a combine harvester proved to work very well to separate the kenaf "bre and core. More work needs to be performed to expand the prototype separator into a production unit. Transportation of the whole stalk material from "eld sites to the processing facility proved to be expensive due to the low density of the material. In-"eld separation could reduce this cost by 50 per cent.

A Thai-made 108 kW rice combine harvester was modi"ed by replacing the cutter bar system with a stripper header. The power requirement of the modi"ed machine was measured at no load and during "eld operation. The stripper header system consisted of a 3 m wide stripping rotor, a metal hood and an adj
The objective of the study was to develop a simple, cheap and reliable system to investigate boom movements on a standard test track and under "eld conditions. A series of tests was conducted in the laboratory to investigate the accuracy of measurement and the reliability of such a system based on p
Owing to the complexity in designing a mouldboard plough, it has been manufactured mostly based on experience and empirical methods. In this research, a mathematical model of a mouldboard plough has been developed to design it for the minimum amount of operating energy. Using this model, a mouldboar
