β¦ Synopsis
The potential and limitations of scanning tunnelling microscopy for the study of platinum particles deposited on various carbon samples are discussed. Limitations are mainly connected with displacement of metal particles by the STM tip, difficulty in distinction between di β erent chemical species and achieving atomic resolution of deposited metal particles. Possible solutions for mitigating these limitations are addressed.
