โœฆ Synopsis

RESULTS:

Our data demonstrated that: (1) benign cystadenoma showed no detectable levels of FAS with score of 0, (2) the overexpression of FAS was correlated with the tumor grade, low-grade serous carcinoma with a score of 0.539 1/-0.519 vs high-grade serous carcinoma with a score of 1.308 1/-1.020 (p\0.05), (3) 28 cases of recurrent carcinoma showed significantly increased expression of FAS with a score of 2.3.57 1/-0.826 vs marched primary carcinoma with a score of 1.179 1/-0.819 (p\0.05), (4) the overexpression of FAS in ascites was also correlated with short survival, 11.97 1/-2.16 months with a score of 2 vs 7.92 1/-1.79 months with a score of 3 in advanced serous carcinomas. CONCLUSION: Our data demonstrated that the levels of FAS were significantly increased in high-grade carcinoma vs low-grade carcinoma. The overexpression of FAS was significantly higher in recurrent cancers as compared with their matched primary cancers. In high-grade serous carcinoma patients with ascites, the high expression of FAS was markedly associated with shorter survival. Taken together, our data suggest that increased FAS expression may be important in ovarian serous tumor progression and that its detection in ascites may provide prognostic information. Our data also indicate that selective inhibition of FAS activity may provide a potential therapeutic target for patients with advanced ovarian serous carcinoma.
