โœฆ Synopsis

This book is the first volume of a new series entitled "Plant and microbial biotechnology research series" (series editor: J. LYNCH). The aim of this new series is to bring a closer integration of plant and microbial biology into the wider field of biotechnology. The microbial aspects are more a part of modem biotechnology and the discussion of physiological aspects of an increased integration of plants in modem biotechnological applications will be promoted by this volume. The topic of the book is to include the development of methods of protein engineering also in the area of plant breeding and cultivation. These areas of plant use are important e.g. for food and feed production, the pharmaceutical industry, medicine and crop protection. On this basis the v..-iume is divided into 6 chapters, each including 1-6 papers written by leading researchers.
