β¦ Synopsis
A white crystalline compound was isolated from dried carpophores of Gomphus kauffmanii (A. H. Smith) Corner in a yield of 2.0z and identified as norcaperatic acid. The presence of norcaperatic acid in a yield of approximately 4.4z was also reconfirmed in the dried carpophores of G. jloccosus (Schw.) Singer. Norcaperatic acid was not detected in dried carpophores of Cantharelfus cibarius Fr., C. infundibufiformis Fr., C. subafbidus Smith et Morse, and G. clauatus S. F. Gray. The presence of mannitol was demonstrated in all six cantharelloid fungi.
