A straightforward approach for determining the cyclobutane pyrimidine dimers, thyminethymine, uracil-thymine, and uracikacil, based upon electrospray ionization/ion trap mass spectrometry is described. These compounds are detected as the sodiated molecules, [ M + Na] +, the response for which is max
