β¦ Synopsis
The photolysis of 2-methylthietane and 2,4-dimethylthietane in argon matrices was investigated using infrared spectroscopy. 2-Methylthietane decomposed on irradiation to form ethylene, propylene, thioformaldehyde and thioacetaldehyde. 2,CDimethylthietane decomposed on irradiation to form propylene and thioacetaldehyde. After exclusion of thioformaldehyde, ethylene, and propylene absorptions from the spectra of the photoproducts, the remained bands were assigned to thioacetaldehyde.
