Photolysis of the title bis(diazo) compound in 2-methyltetrahydrofuran glasses at cryogenic temperature has been shown by ESR and UV absorption spectroscopic studies to result in a stepwise cleavage of two nitrogen molecules to give a 1,4-u-biradical.
