## Abstract The composition of the mixture from the reaction of the basic amino acids ornithine or lysine with pyridoxal‐5′‐phosphate was investigated in D~2~O by ^1^H NMR and was found to be dependent on pH, Ξ± attack being favoured at acid pH and Ο‰ attack in basic solutions.
