✦ Synopsis
The photoelectrochemical behaviour, spectral photoresponse, fill factor and efficiency of Bi2S 3 and Bi2S3 containing PbS or Ag2S in an $2--S,, 2redox system were studied. The semiconductor electrodes were prepared by the electrochemical deposition of sulphide(s) on metallic bismuth and on lead or silver. It was observed that Bi2S3 which contains PbS (5 at.% Pb) or Ag2S (2 at.% Ag) gives a better photoresponse to produce a photovoltage. A polycrystalline pressure-sintered Bi2S 3 electrode which contains a small amount of a sulphide of lead(II) or silver(I) also exhibits a better photoresponse than pure Bi2S3.
