✦ Synopsis
The photochromic behaviour of l-methyl-2,4,4,6-tetraphenyl-1,4-dihydropyridine (DHP) in the solid state is described. The time dependence of the colour decay process is analysed in terms of a dispersive first-order chemical reaction. The non-exponential dependence can be accounted for by a Gaussian distribution of activation energies whose width decreases with increasing temperature. A similar dispersive bleaching reaction with DHP was observed in solid polymer solutions.
