✦ Synopsis

Photochemical reactions of the amorphous cis-and trans-1,2di-( a-naphthyl)ethylenes (DUNE) in hydrosols were studied. Besides the cis-trans-photoisomerization and photocyclization taking place in solution, the amorphous DaNE was found to undergo dimerization, in this case the dimer is formed only from trans-DaNE. Efficient electronic excitation transfer from the trans-to the cis-isomer was found to occur.
