โฆ Synopsis
The photoaddition of oxygen to organic molecules is a well documented reaction (1,2a) but the title compounds do not appear to have been studied in this connection. Irradiation (3) of a benzene solution of the oxazinone (Ia) (4) in aerated solutions gave a product, m.p. 213-6' (ex-acetone) for which structure (II) is Rl Rz p-NO2CeH4 Ph p-N02 C&4

In the title molecule, C 16 H 17 NO, the dihedral angle between the phenyl and benzene rings is 28.4 (1) . The six-membered 3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-oxazine ring adopts a screw boat conformation. In the crystal structure, weak C-Hร ร ร(arene) interactions are present.
