✦ Synopsis

It was found by photoelectron spectroscopy that CW molecules undergo polymerization and oxidation upon ultraviolet light irradiation. It was observed that UV light is more effective than visible light in the photo-induced transformation, suggestingthat the process is initiated by excitation of electrons beyond the energy gap between the HOMO and the LUMO bands of C,. It was also found that oxygen molecules absorbed in solid CW play a key role in the photwinduced oxidation process.

## Abstract A series of model sulfides was oxidized in the NMR sample tube to sulfoxides and sulfones by the stepwise addition of __meta__‐chloroperbenzoic acid in deuterochloroform. Various methods of quantum chemical calculations have been tested to reproduce the observed ^1^H and ^13^C chemical

Laser-enhanced oxidation of gallium arsenide surfaces has been investigated. The oxidation was performed either in air or in pure water at room temperature. Light at ultraviolet wavelengths was found to enhance the oxidation rate much more strongly than at visible wavelengths. The oxidation in air l
