✦ Synopsis


Inelastic neutron scattering measurements and rigid-ion model calculations of phonon dispersion relation in the geophysically important mineral fayalite is reported. The measured r. 4 TA branch is found to be softer in fayalite as compared to that in forsterite Mg2SiO 4. The rigid-ion model calculations are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data.
