near a strip in free space calculated by this method and the UTD. The center of the Y-oriented dipole is 2.0 above the 0 middle of a 2.0 width strip. Here, is the wavelength in 0 0 free space. A very good agreement is obvious.
Figures 3 and4 show another two examples. The strip is placed on the interface between free space and a dielectric of s 2.5. These two examples illustrate the versatility of the r proposed method.
4. CONCLUSION
A rigorous full-wave method is employed to calculate the far-field pattern of a 3-D source near strips in multilayered regions. The reciprocity theorem is applied to simplify the problem, resulting in a very concise formulation. This method can be used to calculate a pattern in any plane, and thus makes up for the insufficiency of another publication. Also, the proposed method can be applied to obtain a pattern of a 3-D source near strips in inhomogeneous dielectric by discretizing the dielectric into multilayered media without any modification.

## Abstract An allβfiber optical attenuator is fabricated by splicing an eccentric core singleβmode fiber (ECSMF) between two singleβmode fibers (SMFs).The attenuation is mainly caused by the core offset between the ECSMF and the SMFs. Attenuators with different attenuations were fabricated. The de
The fabrication and characterization of side-hole singlemode optical fibers have been studied. Controlling the internal pressure of side holes in a preform made possible the fabrication of side-hole fibers with various core ellipticities and with a circular core. The relationship between the V c and
