✦ Synopsis

Treatment of polymorphonuclear leukocytes with sialidase releases about one-half of the total sialic acid of the cells. Such treatment af- fects neither phagocytic ingestion nor glycolysis. These results are in contrast to earlier data in the literature that indicate suppression of both functions mentioned upon desialation of these cells. The presence of an inhibitor of glycolysis that contaminated the crude enzyme previously used is suggested.

## Abstract The effects of 2‐deoxyglucose (DOG), an inhibitor of glycolysis, on guinea pig polymorphonuclear leukocytes (PMN) obtained from peritoneal exudates was examined. ATP levels in PMN were reduced by 40% by one hour following an incubation with 2‐deoxyglucose. When complement (C3) coated ^1
