โฆ Synopsis
Partial response signaling with maximum likelihood detection (PRML) systems using a rate 11/12 punctured convolution code (PCC) as a recording code in digital magnetic recording are proposed. The bit error rate (BER) performance for several PRML systems for the rate 11/12PCC is obtained by computer simulation and compared with that for the conventional rate 8/9 code. It is shown that among these PRML systems, E 2 PR4ML systems for the rate 11/12PCC outperform those for the rate 8/9 code and provide an SNR advantage of about 3.4 dB at a BER of 10 4 and a normalized linear density of 3.
