โฆ Synopsis
The performance of various PRML systems for (1,7)RLL code and 8/9 code is compared. First, the bit error rates are obtained by simulation for PR4ML, EPR4ML, PR(1,1,0,1,1)ML, and PR(1,2,1,0,1,2,1)ML systems. Next, the relationships between the required SNR at the reading point to attain a prescribed error rate and the normalized linear density are derived and compared. Further, the performance of the FS-PRML system which can reduce the number of states of the Viterbi decoder for (1,7)RLL code to one half is compared. It is shown that the PR(1,2,1,0,1,2,1)ML system and FS-PR(1,1,0,1,1)ML system for (1,7)RLL code exhibit excellent performance.
