Copper forms passivating layers in alkaline solutions. Depending on the electrode potential a Cu,O or a Cu20/Cu0, layer is present. The structure and composition of the film has been examined by different methods like X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy ( X P S ) , Ion Scattering Spectroscopy (ISS) and

## Abstract The passivity of copper in NaOH and borate buffer solutions containing chloride, bromide and fluoride ions was studied by using cyclic voltammetry and potentiostatic current transient measurements. At scan rates β‰₯ 20 mVs^βˆ’1^, the addition of halide ions does not nearly affect the cyclic

Al~traet--Two main views are found in the literature regarding the type of oxide formed on copper anodes in alkaline solutions. The one considers that copper oxidizes to Cu~O and CuO (or Cu(OH),) before oxygen evolution. Mftller is, however, of the opinion that a still higher oxide, Cu~O,, forms. Th

Galvanostatic cyclic anodic and cathodic polarization curves of seven copper-tin alloys were traced on O-01, O-1 and 2N NaOH solutions at 25". The tin content of the alloys was varied between 8 and 76 wt-%. The results obtained are explained in relation to the phase diagram of the copper-tin system.
