At 30ยฐC butadiene is only partially oxidized on Pt and Au anodes in HzS04-Na2S04 solutions. On Pt, ethanol is the principal resulting substance at this temperature. On Au, tert-butyl alcohol and propanone are obtained at 30ยฐC and a hydroxylated polymer, together with butanone, are produced at 70ยฐC.

Red&ion of 1,3-butadiene with H,(D,) on a PI electrode in 0.5 M H,SO,(D,SO3 was studied on open circuit. Results on the reaction kinetics, the open circuit potential, the product distribution and the isotope exchange show that (1) the diiuaion of 1,3 butadiene (1,3-Q or H, controls the reaction rate
