β¦ Synopsis
The physically stable but chemically reactive square-planar complex (+)-[(dichloro){(S,S)-l,4-dimesyloxy-2,3-butanediamine}palladium(II)] and its platinum(lI) analogue have been prepared from the reactions between the dihydrochloride salt of the diamine and K2MCI4 (where M=Pd, Pt) in water. The palladium complex has been analysed by X-ray crystallography. In contrast to their metal complexes, the free diamine ligand and its dihydrochloride salt are unstable and cannot be isolated.
