โฆ Synopsis
High-resolution transmission electron microscopy images of cryslals consisting largely of &,, molecules ("buckminsterfullerene" ) show that they form close-packed arrays. Domams containing closed-cage structural relatives of C,, ("fullerenes") that are both smaller and significantly larger than C,, are evident. The larger fullerenes have the projected shapes of elongated ellipsoids, some of which we estimate to contain over IO0 carbon atoms.
